When you can elevatate your back and your legs slightly you are in a fetal
position: this is the same position you experience when you are in a fetal
position on your side - with your upper body is slightly bent forward, knees
bent, and legs tucked in. The benefits of being in this position on your
back and not on your side is that your mattress is against your back, supporting
your spine, and that you don’t have to worry about pressure points on
your hips and shoulders that can cause unwanted tossing and turning, that
prevent you from obtaining a good night’s
sleep. Also this position is similar to the zero gravity position astronruts
reed to be in during a launch into space. If they are not in this position,
they risk severe injury to their spine due to the increased G-forces on their
body. This point helps validate that this articulated position is the best
position for properly supporting your body.
